The Regents of Washington State University are considering a Martin Stadium upgrade project that would cost an estimated $80 million.
When Oregon State University defeated Washington State University in college football last Saturday, it did so with five team members who had been heavily recruited by WSU.
“They loved Washington State, loved everything about it, their parents were crazy about it. They ended up going to Oregon State—now this is not Oregon, Oregon State, primarily because of their facilities,” says Bill Moos, WSU's director of intercollegiate athletics.
WSU has presented Regents with a requestto approve an $80 million plan to upgrade Martin Stadium in Pullman. The project would include a larger press box and new luxury boxes. No tax dollars would be used to pay for the project; some of it would be paid for through revenue expected from a new league television contract.
The Regents will decide on the project next month. WSU hopes to begin construction on November 21st.
In the meantime, a second construction project, now in the design phase, includes the building of a new football operations center at the west end zone of the stadium.
