Seattle’s tallest baby now has a name.
The name of Woodland Park Zoo’s 7-week-old baby giraffe is (drumroll, please...) Misawa.
The name is a common greeting in indigenous Luo language in Tanzania and Kenya, the zoo said, and was chosen by the students of Washington State University College of Veterinary Medicine.
Olivia, a 6-year-old resident giraffe, gave birth to Misawa in August. Within hours, the baby was standing and walking with his mom’s guidance. Born at 5-foot-6, Misawa has already grown to 8 feet tall.
The zoo has installed a live camera inside the giraffes’ barn. The zoo says the best times to tune in are between 4 p.m. and 10 a.m. as the pair may wander outdoors during the day.
