Washington Gov. Jay Inslee is in Davos, Switzerland, this week at the World Economic Forum. He is the only U.S. governor attending.
He went to promote the clean energy sector and spoke in a press briefing about how to keep the climate from warming more than 2 degrees Celsius.
Inslee touted the successes of supporting clean tech companies in Washington.
“We have 90,000 jobs in my state and growing twice as fast in the clean energy economy. Jobs in the clean energy economy are growing twice as fast as the rest of the economy," Inslee said. "And it’s because we have made investments in companies that are on the cutting edge.”
He said those companies include a manufacturer of carbon fiber used in electric cars, the creators of a vanadium-flow battery that stores renewable energy, and a solar panel manufacturer based in Bellingham.
While in Davos, Inslee also talked about his efforts to get a carbon tax and a clean fuel standard passed in Washington state and appeared on a panel called “Stepping Up on Climate Action,” which was hosted by former Vice President Al Gore.
