Update: No sign of missing campers, climbers on Mt Rainier

Jan 23, 2012

MOUNT RAINIER NATIONAL PARK, Wash. — Despite a break in the weather, there's still no sign of four campers and climbers who have been missing for a week on Mount Rainier.

Forty searchers on skis and snowshoes spent the day looking for them, while two helicopters and a State Patrol plane with heat-sensing technology soared overhead. The Park Service says the searchers had found no trace of the missing parties as they wrapped up their efforts Monday.

The missing campers are 37-year-old Mark Vucich, of San Diego, and 30-year-old Michelle Trojanowski, of Atlanta. The climbers were identified as 52-year-old Sork "Erik" Yang, of Springfield, Ore., and Seol Hee Jin, of Korea. They were due back Jan. 15 and 16.

Blizzards packing heavy snows and winds of more than 60 mph have hindered rescue efforts over the past week, and another storm is heading toward the mountain.
