Minnesota Snowshoer Missing in North Cascades
The Chelan County sheriff's office says the search is continuing Thursday for a 21-year-old man overdue on a snowshoe hike near Stevens Pass in Washington's North Cascades.
Ezra Thompson of Paynesville, Minn., left the Nason Creek trailhead on May 25 and was expected Tuesday at Holden Village where he had a summer job clearing trails.
Officials say Thompson has the necessary gear but not a lot of backcountry experience.
There is a heavy snowpack in the area and high avalanche danger due to rain and warming temperatures.
Seattle Lawyer Accused of "Keying" Cars in Parking Garage
A 63-year-old Washington man accused of scratching several vehicles with keys and leaving notes criticizing the drivers' parking skills has been charged with second-degree malicious mischief.
King County prosecutors say in charging documents that notes left on the "keyed" vehicles at the Columbia Center in Seattle called the drivers "dweeb" and "idiot."
The targeted vehicles had been parked over the designated parking space lines.
Building security set up a "bait car" and surveillance camera, then turned the information over to police.
The Seattle Times reports that a Seattle lawyer, Ronald Clarke Mattson, was charged. According to The Times, Mattson's attorney, Matthew Honeywell, said Wednesday that his client "has accepted full responsibility for his actions," apologized to the victims and paid restitution.
Mattson did not immediately return a Wednesday evening call to his office.
Damage was estimated at more than $6,000.
Police Investigate Two Deaths at Tacoma Home
Police say an adult woman and a young man have been found dead inside a Tacoma home.
Tacoma police spokesman Mark Fulghum says two bodies were found Wednesday afternoon when officers checked the home after one of the two people failed to report to work.
An officer at the scene says the dead included a woman believed to be in her 50s and a man believed to be 18-20 years old.
There was no immediate information on the cause of death and the victims were not identified.
Friends say the woman was a registered nurse.
KOMO-TV reports that police say they are not looking for any suspects.
Summery Weather Expected This Weekend
Here are a couple words you haven't heard much in western Washington: 1) sunny 2) warm.
But that's likely to change this weekend, because the National Weather Service forecast calls for lots of sunshine and temperatures in the 70s. Maybe even into the 80s in some locations.
“We are predicting the warmest temperatures of 2011,” meteorologist Dennis D’Amico told the SeattleP-I.com on Wednesday.
Seattle just emerged from the third rainiest April and May in the city's history.
The weekend warmth isn’t predicted to last. Cool, cloudy weather is expected to return Monday.
