UW Board of Regents Name Utah's Michael Young new U-Dub President

The University of Washington Board of Regents has chosen University of Utah President Michael Young as the next leader of the university in Seattle.Young has been president of the University of Utah since 2004.
The board has delegated Board Chairman Herb Simon to negotiate a contract with Young.
During his time at the University of Utah, the school joined the Pac-12 athletic conference and had a professor as co-winner of the Nobel Prize.
Young was dean of the George Washington University Law School before taking the job at Utah. He also served 20 years on the faculty at Columbia University and worked with the first president Bush.
Previous UW president Mark Emmert left last September to take a job as president of the NCAA.
Drug evidence in death probes reported stolen
An investigator with the Snohomish County Medical Examiner's Office has resigned amid allegations he stole drugs seized in death probes.
The Herald of Everett's Diana Hefleysays the 35-year-old man has not been arrested. He was placed on administrative earlier this month and resigned April 15.
Detectives forwarded the case to prosecutors for possible criminal charges, including drug possession and official misconduct.
Police records show the man took a six-week leave of absence from work to undergo treatment in California for substance abuse.
Later, employees conducting an inventory of controlled drugs seized in cases and discovered an evidence envelope had been opened and resealed. The investigator was supposed to have delivered that envelope to the sheriff's office to be destroyed.
No answers found why soldier opened fire in Utah
Investigations by police and the Army failed to find why a soldier from Arizona who served in Iraq and was absent without leave from Fort Lewis opened fire - wounding a police officer before being shot and killed in Salt Lake City.
The Salt Lake Tribune reported Mondaythat 28-year-old Spc. Brandon Barrett had no known ties to Utah, but signaled that was where he was going.
The Army didn't tell Utah authorities that he posed a threat.
Investigations by the Army and police in Salt Lake City and Tucson, Ariz., leave questions and few answers about the fatal Aug. 27 shootout outside the Grand America Hotel in Salt Lake City.
Salt Lake City Police Chief Chris Burbank tells the Tribune he hopes problems have been corrected.

Gas Prices Up an Average of 3 Cents Per Gallon in State
The AAA auto club reports the average price of a gallon of gasoline in Washington is $3.95.
That's 9 cents higher than the national average and up 3 cents in a week, 20 cents in a month and 86 cents in the past year.
