Marc Seales

Pianist-composer and Professor of Piano at the University of Washington, Marc Seales brought his trio to The Seattle Art Museum for the December Art of Jazz concert.  Joining Marc Seales were Jeff Johnson, bass, and Steve Korn, drums. Highlights from the concert will air on Jazz Northwest, Sunday, December 20 at 2 p.m. Pacific on 88.5 KPLU, and streaming at kplu.org.

Marc Seales bridges the gap from an earlier generation of jazz to the present.  He has played with many visiting jazz greats and has recorded with Mark Murphy, Ernie Watts, Don Lanphere and others.  He is a Professor of Music at the University of Washington where he has served as Chair of Jazz Studies and has taught History of Jazz, Jazz Piano and Improvisation.  Music on this program includes pieces by Wayne Shorter, George Duke, Jeff Johnson, Steve Swallow and John Coltrane as well as two standards and a spiritual.

The Art of Jazz Series is presented on the second Thursday of each month by The Seattle Art Museum and Earshot Jazz, John Gilbreath Executive Director, with the support of 88.5 KPLU. The next concert will feature Clarence Acox and the Legacy Quartet on January 14, 2016.  The concerts are recorded, edited and produced for radio by Jim Wilke for KPLU.

Jazz Northwest airs on Sundays at 2 p.m. Pacific and streams at kplu.org.   An archive of past programs is available for streaming at jazznw.org
