Seattle leaders could vote on the proposed "head tax" for high-earning businesses as early as next week. Revenue from the controversial tax is meant to fund affordable housing initiatives and continue the city’s fight against homelessness.
Some of the expected $75 million could go toward the case workers and managers at organizations contracted by the city to provide services. Crosscut’s city reporter, David Kroman, has a story about what it’s like to work at these agencies, as well as the low pay that comes along with it, which is typically below $40,000 a year.
