Jazz Northwest: June 15, 2014

Jazz Northwest samples the wide variety of jazz available in the Pacific Northwest each week. This week we have a sneak preview of the forthcoming CD by the young Chilean saxophonist Melissa Aldana who will play a single gig on the West Coast next week.

It's at Jimmy Mak's in Portland presented by PDX Jazz. She was the winner of the Thelonious Monk Competition last year.

We'll also hear Greta Matassa and Susan Pascal (Bakes Place), Frank Vignola & Vinny Raniolo (Jazz Alley), Medeski Scofield Martin & Wood (Woodland Park Zoo), Kelby MacNayr & Bobby McFerrin (Victoria and Vancouver Jazz Festivals) and Stan Kenton plays Gerry Mulligan (SRJO concerts).

Jim has been a fixture on Seattle radio since 1961. He was the host of Jazz After Hours on Public Radio International from 1984-2014. Currently Jim has been producing Jazz Northwest for KNKX since 1988. This weekly program focuses on the regional jazz scene and frequently includes performances Jim records on location for Jazz Northwest.
