Inslee readying transition team

Nov 7, 2012

Democrat Jay Inslee is still ahead in the race for Washington governor. The tally now stands at 51% for the former Congressman.

Inslee says he’s waiting for a call from his opponent, Attorney General Rob McKenna, before he’ll declare victory. But, that didn’t stop him from holding a press conference Wednesday to talk about his transition team.

He was all smiles as he greeted reporters at his campaign headquarters in Seattle's Rainier Valley. Inslee says the number crunchers on his campaign assure him, he will win the race for governor. So he’s started assembling his staff. He talked in general terms about who he’ll hire.

“First people who will bring a breath of fresh air to Olympia. Second, people who have experience in job creation and to help me develop and implement my job-creation plan. Third, a transition group that will represent the whole state of Washington.”

Inslee grew up south of Seattle in White Center, but raised his family in eastern Washington, in the Yakima Valley.

Republican Rob McKenna has said he expects it will take several days to know who the winner is.
