Pianist and vocalist Dawn Clement has made her mark on the Seattle music scene over the past several years, prompting music writer Paul de Barros to refer to her as the “Wonder Woman of Seattle.” She’s won three Earshot Jazz Golden Ear awards, recorded 5 albums, and was last year’s Artist-in-Residence for the Earshot Jazz Festival.
Other horizons and challenges beckon, however, and Dawn has accepted a position as the new Assistant Professor of Music in the Jazz and American Improvised Music Department at the Metropolitan State University of Denver.
Dawn’s Gratitude Trio popped in for a live Studio Session, ahead of her last few performances in Seattle for a while. Along with her friends and fellow Artist Faculty members for Jazz Port Townsend, bassist Chuck Deardorf and drummer Matt Wilson, we were treated to wonderful interpretations of a couple of standards, two original compositions, and a Thelonious Monk classic.
We wish Dawn and her family all the best in Denver!
