A Polish government official says Boeing will offer compensation to the national airline for the months-long grounding of its 787 planes.
The world's fleet of 50 Boeing 787s was grounded in January after batteries smoldered on two planes owned by Japanese airlines. Two among the grounded planes were owned by Poland's LOT airline. They have since resumed flights.
Deputy Treasury Minister Rafal Baniak said Monday that the grounding had cost over 100 million zlotys ($ 30 million) in lost flights alone.
He told Radio PiN that Boeing is to make a compensation offer in July.
LOT, which is struggling financially, had hoped that the fuel-efficient 787 would improve its earnings.
