After the violence that rocked Charlottesville, Virginia, almost two weeks ago, Black Lives Matter activists are planning a march in Seattle on Saturday.
More than 2,000 people have indicated on Facebook that they plan to attend the Black Lives Matter March Against Hate and Racism. It will start at 6:00 p.m. at Westlake Park in downtown Seattle.
Mohawk Kuzma is with Black Liberation Front in Seattle and is one of the organizers of Saturday's march. He said he’s hoping the whole city will come out to show that Seattle rejects racism.
"Black people should already be free, but that ain’t reality yet," he said. "Racism is still alive and well in this country, and that’s not acceptable. So in 2017, the time is now to defeat racism and bigotry once and for all."
The white nationalist rally in Charlottesville drew people carrying weapons, Confederate flags and torches and quickly turned violent. A 32-year-old woman died and 19 were injured when a man drove his car into a crowd of counter-protesters.
The aftermath of those events has sparked a national dialogue about the country’s racist past and present.
