ANCHORAGE, Alaska — A moderate aftershock to a strong earthquake has struck a remote and sparsely populated region of Alaska.
The Alaska Earthquake Information Center says the magnitude-5.8 aftershock was centered about 107 miles northwest of the island of Shemya at the western end of the Aleutian Islands. There were no reports of it being felt or causing damage.
It occurred just before 1 p.m. Tuesday at a depth of 12 miles.
The stronger earthquake, a magnitude 6.0, occurred about 8 a.m. and was centered in the same area.
The earlier quake was felt on Shemya, but there were no reports of damage.
Neither quake was expected to produce a tsunami.
