EVERETT, Wash. — An unknown amount of jet fuel spilled into the soil when a tanker-trailer overturned after it collided with a train at a crossing on Boeing property near Paine Field in Everett.
State Ecology Department spokesman Larry Altose says the leak was secured and fuel remaining in the trailer was pumped out. The spill was contained in a berm. The contaminated soil will be removed.
There were no injuries or fire in the accident about 10 a.m. Monday.
Burlington Northern Santa Fe spokesman Gus Melonas says two locomotives were moving about 5 miles per while flashers and bells were activated at the private crossing. When the truck drove through the crossing, the train hit the trailer, knocking the tank on its side.
