Terell Stafford Guest Soloist With Seattle Repertory Jazz Orchestra

International trumpet star and educator Terell Stafford played a three-concert series in February as special guest with the Seattle Repertory Jazz Orchestra. The concerts took place in Edmonds, Seattle and Kirkland and the final performance was recorded for Jazz Northwest to air Sunday, March 6 at 2 p.m. Pacific on 88.5 KPLU and streaming at KPLU.  Music by Duke Ellington, Michael Brecker and Chick Corea are among the highlights included in this concert broadcast. 

Terell Stafford has appeared with Jazz at Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall Jazz Band, Kenny Barron, Bobby Watson, McCoy Tyner, Jimmy Heath, Matt Wilson, The Clayton Brothers and Clayton-Hamilton Jazz Orchestra, among others.  He has been on over 130 albums, his most recent album as a leader is "BrotherLee Love" a tribute to Lee Morgan. Terell Stafford has been a perennial favorite at Centrum's Jazz Port Townsend each summer for many years.

The Seattle Repertory Jazz Orchestra is co-directed by Clarence Acox and Michael Brockman and presents a five concert series in several locations each year. The next concert in the current series will feature NEA Jazz Master, Bill Holman, who will conduct three concerts of his music April 15 - 17.  Jazz Northwest is recorded and produced by Jim Wilke, exclusively for 88.5 KPLU and airs on Sundays at 2 PM Pacific, simultaneously streaming at KPLU. After broadcast each program is available for streaming at jazznw.org.

Jim has been a fixture on Seattle radio since 1961. He was the host of Jazz After Hours on Public Radio International from 1984-2014. Currently Jim has been producing Jazz Northwest for KNKX since 1988. This weekly program focuses on the regional jazz scene and frequently includes performances Jim records on location for Jazz Northwest.
