Summer in Seattle has arrived and venues around the Puget Sound are complementing the weather. Grab some chairs, blankets, snacks, family and friends to hit the nearest starlit theater near you.
Most venues are family-friendly, but the Redhook Brewery's Summer Cinema and Fremont's Outdoor Cinema host a few 21 and older showings for their R-rated flicks. Some events are free while others require donations or admission payments. All shows start at dusk.
Take a look at ten featured venues around the Puget Sound:
- PEMCO Movies at Magnuson Park: Gates open at 7:00 pm and features like Ferris Bueller's Day Off and The Lion King will be shown every Thursday between July 12 and August 30. There are also circus acts, costume contests and food trucks.
- Bellevue Outdoor Movie Nights: Bellevue offers free popcorn and family-friendly flicks like Happy Feet 2 and We Bought a Zoo on a 40-foot inflatable screen. Films will be shown every Tuesday night from July 10 to August 28.
- Fremont Almost Free Outdoor Cinema: Every Saturday between July 14 and August 25 Fremont will be showing cult classics like Ghostbusters and The Big Lebowski.
- Redhook Brewery's 2012 Summer Moonlight Cinema: Every Thursday between July 12 and August 30 Redhook will be opening it's gates at 6:00 pm offering beers, barbecue and a 55-foot inflatable screen.
- Carillon Point's Outdoor Movie Night: Overlooking Lake Washington movies like Thor and The Princess Bride will be shown every-other-Saturday between July 14 and September 8. $5.00 donations to Hopelink are strongly recommended.
- First Tech Movies at Marymoor Park: Gates open at 7:00 pm and features like Grease and Crazy, Stupid, Love. will be shown every Wednesday between July 11 and August 29. There are also circus acts, costume contests and food trucks.
- City of Redmonds Sixth Annual Summer Movie Series: Between July 13 and August 25 films like The Help and Tin Tin will be shown on Friday and Saturday nights. Sponsored by the Redmond Youth Partnership Advisory Committee, Redmond will be hosting its sixth annual free summer series.
- West Seattle Outdoor Movies: From July 21 to August 25 West Seattle will host its eighth year of free Saturday night flicks. Gates open at 6:30 pm with concessions and raffles available, proceeds going to charity.
- Everett's Cinema Under the Stars: Every Friday night between July 20 and August 17 McClain Insurance Services and Northwest Animal Care Hospital host a family friendly evening under the stars with pre-show entertainment starting at 7:30 pm.
- Bainbridge Island Summer Movies in the Park: During the month of August Bainbridge Island will open its waterfront park Friday nights starting at 8:30 pm for free movies under the stars.
