Do you stop for school buses?
A recent survey found Washington drivers are ignoring school buses' stop signs and flashing red lights, putting children's safety at risk.
The National Association of State Directors of Pupil Transportation asked districts across the country to pick one date and report other drivers' behavior as observed by the bus drivers.
On May 1, 3,588 bus drivers in 110 districts in Washington state responded. They recorded 1,523 violations.
Those violators included 32 drivers who actually passed a bus on the right.
"That is on the side that kids enter and exit the bus," said Nathan Olson of the state's Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI).
State legislation passed two years ago allows school districts to install outdoor cameras to photograph violating drivers. Those drivers are later fined.
Superintendent Randy Dorn is urging all school districts to consider whether installing cameras would help curb violations.
