Seattle Tops List of Cities with Cool, Comfortable Summers

Doug Mahugh

Loathe sweltering summer heat? You’re in the right place.

The Seattle metro area topped the list of 50 most “chill cities” in the U.S.

Research firm Sperling’s BestPlaces used average day and night temperatures and humidity to determine which cities had the coolest, most comfortable summers. Portland ranked second, and San Francisco took third.

“Of the 50 largest metro areas in the United States, Seattle, Portland and San Francisco have the most comfortable summers, with mild temperatures, cool nights and humidity so low it’s barely noticeable,” Sperling wrote.

Several other West Coast cities were listed within the top 20. San Jose ranked fifth, Sacramento ranked 14th, and San Diego 17th—two spots ahead of Los Angeles.
