It appears the going is good for the working man in the Puget Sound area.
The Seattle metro area saw the most new jobs last month, and the second largest wage growth in recent years in spite of the financial crisis, according to new reports.
The Seattle metro area saw 168.44 new jobs per 10,000 residents, topping a list of U.S. metro areas, according to a report by Bright Media Corporation, a staffing agency. The area’s top industries were professional services, health care, tech, financial services, and retail, the report said.
Dallas, Fort Worth and Arlington ranked second with 161.18 jobs, and Des Moines came in third with 158.18. Bright said it compiled the employment index using one of the nation’s largest aggregations of job postings and resumes, as well as government, financial and real estate data.
And a recent Gallup poll found employees in Seattle, Tacoma, and Everett saw an increase of $4,320 in their annual pay between 2009 and 2012, bumping up the average wage from $53,240 to $57,560. In the ranking of large metro cities, Washington, D.C. saw the biggest hike, and San Francisco ranked third after Seattle.
