Elks lodges, like other fraternal organizations, mostly have an older membership. But two Elks lodges in Seattle have had a surge of members in the 20s to early 40s.
The Queen Anne lodge now has about 300 members and the Ballard Elks has more than 500. The Seattle Times reports new members are drawn to the Elks' socializing, charity work and cheap drinks. Membership costs about $100 a year, and the only requirements are American citizenship, a belief in God and the sponsorship of an existing member.
