Former Seattle councilwoman Cheryl Chow has brain cancer and says she has one more thing she wants to do before she dies.
She told KING-TV she is coming out and telling people she is gay after being secretive for more than 60 years. She wants to encourage others to not be afraid to tell their parents or children the truth.
The 66-year-old says she feared the reaction of the Chinese community and her mother, restaurateur and King County Councilmember, Ruby Chow.
Chow says her mother was one of the first restaurant owners in town to welcome gay organizations, but that doesn't mean she wanted her daughter to be gay.
Chow and Sarah Morningstar, an assistant principal, have been together for 10 years.
