My Food for Thought co-conspirator Nancy Leson says that Seattle restaurants and chefs are mentioned in quite a few of the novels she's read recently. Not surprisingly, Tom Douglas and his restaurants are mentioned in several.
In "Where'd You Go, Bernadette?" the protagonist blames him for her decision to stay in what she calls "...this Canada-close sink hole they call the Emerald City." (Hmmph).
Nancy's other reading recommendations include Jonathan Rabin's "Waxwings", which she says mentions lots of Seattle restaurants. It also mentions rioting anarchists, which may be symbolic of what's happening in those Seattle restaurant kitchens.
At the moment I'm re-reading Erin Morgenstern's "The Night Circus", in which she describes the combined aromas of autumn leaves and warm caramel. That may not be Seattle but it sure smelled good to me.
Browsing around for more about food and restaurants in novels I came across this list of 10 great novels for food lovers. What are your favorites?
