Schedule changes coming to KPLU's Sunday lineup

Beginning Sunday, October 28 we’re making some changes to our Sunday program schedule. Here’s a summary:

PIANO JAZZ

I decided to drop Piano Jazz with Marian McPartland because the show has been in reruns for over two years and listening has dropped off significantly over that time. It was not an easy decision as Marian McPartland has been on KPLU for 32 years!

If you still want to listen to Piano Jazz you can subscribe to the podcast: http://www.npr.org/rss/rss.php?id=24

If you want to hear jazz any time, try KPLU’s 24-hour jazz stream - Jazz24.  Of course you can also listen to over 100 hours of jazz a week on KPLU. Here’s the on-air schedule: http://www.kplu.org/schedule

SUNDAY WEEKEND EDITION

I decided to expand Sunday Weekend Edition by one hour and air it until 10:00am. This program is very popular with KPLU listeners and I think the expanded air time will be well received.

WAIT, WAIT DON’T TELL ME

At 10:00am we’re going to repeat Wait, Wait Don’t Tell Me. This show is a proven hit across the country and most major market NPR affiliates play it twice on the weekends. Since we added it last March (airing Saturdays at 2:00pm) we’ve seen a sizable increase in our audience at that time.

SUNDAY SIDE UP & JAZZ NORTHWEST

Because of these changes, Sunday Side Up moves back to an 11:00am start time, followed by Jazz Northwest at 2:00pm. The rest of the Sunday schedule remains the same.

I’m sorry that this change comes at the expense of Sunday Side Up losing two hours of air time. I created the program many years ago and Ruby Brown is an excellent host. This is just part of the challenge of programming a dual format. Sometimes it comes at the expense of jazz, sometimes news is affected.  With these changes though, I believe we will make more listeners happy, more of the time.

Best Regards,

Joey Cohn
