Roads still slow-going for Metro

Our icy roads continue to make for reduced Metro bus services. Snow routes will be observed again Wednesday, as the agency copes with tough driving conditions and the cold temperatures keeping the ice frozen solid.

In a statement released Tuesday evening, the agency cautioned riders to check on their specific route before leaving home:

Remember, when buses are on snow routing, some streets and bus stops may be missed and there are often delays due to travel conditions. There is new snow routing in many areas that is different from past years, so be sure to check the snow routes for all the routes you use most often.

Metro says its workers monitored street conditions overnight, and continued the job of retrieving  buses that had to be abandoned during the height of Monday's storm.

Metro spokeswoman Linda Thielke told The Seattle Times that about 200 buses were left where they were stranded:

The worst areas, said Thielke, were Highway 520 eastbound near Medina, West Seattle, Interstate 5 southbound near Boeing Field, the east side of Capitol Hill and north Ballard.

Frigid temperatures plagued western Washington overnight. Today's forecast is for more sun breaks and slightly warming temperatures, with highs in the upper 20's.  Snow showers are likely overnight Wednesday and into Thanksgiving morning, according to the National Weather Service. Rain and temperatures above freezing are expected after noon Thanksgiving Day.
