A funeral procession for fallen Tacoma Police Officer Reginald "Jake" Gutierrez will pass through the city Friday before a public memorial service at the Tacoma Dome.

Gutierrez, 45, was shot and killed Nov. 30 while responding to a domestic violence call at a home on Tacoma's East Side.

The procession is expected to begin about 10:30 a.m. at Joint Base Lewis-McChord and travel along South Tacoma Way to the Tacoma Dome. Doors open at 11 a.m. and memorial service begins at 1 p.m.

City officials say mourners should park at Cheney Stadium and take a free bus to the Tacoma Dome. Buses are scheduled to run between 10:45 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.

Roads along the procession route and several nearby highway ramps will close throughout the day. City officials say they expect the procession route to be clear about 3 p.m.

Washington Gov. Jay Inslee is scheduled to attend the service and present the state flag to a member of Gutierrez's family. Tacoma Mayor Marilyn Strickland is scheduled to speak, as are other government and police officials.

Tacoma police say donations to the Officer Jake Gutierrez Memorial Fund can be made at any city police station. The fund is for Gutierrez's family.
