Washington’s Pierce County is among the top 10 in the U.S. for the number of contaminated meth lab sites found in the past eight years, according to the Drug Enforcement Administration.
CNN created an interactive map which reflects data collected by the DEA's National Clandestine Laboratory Register between 2004 and 2012. The data includes all meth incidents including found labs, dumpsites, and seizures of chemicals and glassware.
Topping the list by a wide margin is Oklahoma’s Tulsa County with 979 recorded contaminated sites followed by Jefferson County, Missouri with 472 sites, and Oklahoma County, Oklahoma with 393 sites.
Pierce County ranked ninth with a total of 213 sites. No other counties in Washington state ranked near the top 10. King County has 53 sites, and Snohomish and Spokane counties have 29 sites each.
DEA's data shows the total number of meth incidents in Washington state has been declining year over year. The state saw 954 incidents in 2004, 127 incidents in 2008, and eight incidents in 2012.
In Oregon, Multnomah County ranked highest with 102 sites. Idaho’s highest-ranking county, Kootenai County, has 12.
New Mexico’s Bernalillo County where the popular show “Breaking Bad” is based topped the state's list with a total of 97 sites.
