If you live in Seattle and want to avoid receiving piles of phone books that you don't need, the deadline is September 23. The city has an opt-out website at www.seattle.gov/stopphonebooks

“Yellowbook” and “SuperPages” deliveries are scheduled from late-October through the end of the year. You need to opt-out at least 30 days before the delivery date.

Susan Stoltzfus with Seattle Public Utilities says 55,000 homes and businesses in the city have stopped 300,000 phone book deliveries via the free service. So far, the opt-outs have saved about 300 tons of paper.

The Phone Books Opt-Out Registry is funded by a fee charged to yellow pages publishers.
