A big response this week to the effort to bring the NHL to Seattle. A lot of people made refundable deposits on season tickets, even though a hockey team has not yet been secured. 10,000 deposits were made in 12 minutes!

It’s the topic of this week’s chat between KNKX sports commentator Art Thiel and Morning Edition Host Kirsten Kendrick.

Thiel was among the reporters gathered on the roof of the Space Needle Thursday for the raising of the NHL Seattle flag. Also Thursday, a total of 30,000 deposits were made for season tickets.

"They had a tremendous boost this week of success  in getting these season ticket deposits and showing what passion there is for hockey in Seattle," Thiel said.

The city is expected to learn in June whether an expansion team is coming to Seattle. Then, an environmental impact statement (EIS) must be completed.

Barring any litigation stemming from the EIS, ground is expected to be broken on construction at KeyArena this fall.
