Old And New Jazz Around The Region On Jazz Northwest

Ray Vega, Phil Sparks and Thomas Marriott in a studio broadcast at KPLU.

Jazz old and new is featured on Jazz Northwest on 88.5 KPLU this Sunday, March 27.   The second East West Trumpet Summit CD featuring Ray Vega and Thomas Marriott (East and West) is sampled, and the late Ham Carson is heard playing at The New Orleans Creole Restaurant where he played every week for over 20 years.  The Full Circle Jazz Ensemble is heard in music from a forthcoming CD, and Portland's Alan Jones Sextet plays a tune inspired by the late bassist Leroy Vinegar, "The Walker."  Vinegar is also heard playing with pianist Jessica Williams at a jazz club in Portland.

Jazz Northwest is produced by host Jim Wilke and airs Sundays at 2 PM Pacific, streaming at KPLU.  After broadcast, programs may be steamed at Jazz Northwest.   Next week on Jazz Northwest, a special one-time concert billed as "Latitude Adjustment" from the 2015 Jazz Port Townsend features an unusual trio with alto saxophonist Steve Wilson, Brazilian guitarist Romero Lubambo and pianist George Cables.
