Olympic National Park says a house-mover is putting all the animals and equipment in place to pull a historic lodge away from the eroding edge of a river in the Enchanted Valley.
Spokeswoman Rainey McKenna says good weather Thursday should allow a helicopter to bring in any equipment that couldn't be carried by the mules and horses.
She says the animals will be used to drag the Enchanted Valley Chalet 50 to 100 feet to prevent it from falling into the east fork of the Quinault River. The house mover has until Sept. 24 to complete the work.
The chalet is located 13 miles from the nearest road. It was built as a backcountry lodge in the 1930s and has been used as a wilderness ranger station and emergency shelter.
