Mother Visits Lynnwood Man Detained in North Korea

The family of an American man detained in North Korea for the past 11 months says his mother is being allowed to visit him.

Terri Chung, the sister of Kenneth Bae, tells The Associated Press their mother has arrived in Pyongyang and was scheduled to meet with him Friday morning local time.

Bae, a 45-year-old tour operator and Christian missionary, was arrested last November and accused of subversive activities against the authoritarian government. He was sentenced to 15 years of hard labor, but over the summer he was transferred from a prison camp to a hospital because he had lost more than 50 pounds.

In a video statement before she left, Bae's mother, Myunghee Bae of Lynnwood, Wash., said she was grateful for the chance to visit him and couldn't wait to hold him.
