Trifolia: Etienne Lafrance, Marianne Trudel, Patrick Graham

The Montreal-based trio Trifolia played at the Seattle Art Museum's Art of Jazz series as part of their recent West Coast tour, and highlights from the concert aired on Jazz Northwest on Sunday, June 21 at 2 PM PDT.  The trio consisting of Marianne Trudel, piano, Etienne Lafrance, bass, and Patrick Graham, percussion, plays original music by the pianist and draws upon elements of jazz, classical and world music.

Pianist Marianne Trudel has degrees in music performance and ethnomusicology and has produced six CDs with various ensembles.  Le Refuge, by Trifolia, won a Prix Opus 2013 and was also a Juno Award nominee.  Etienne Lafrance is also principal bassist witht he Montreal Symphony Orchestra and Patrick Graham uses a variety of percussion instruments instead of the usual drum set to provide an international flavor.

The Art of Jazz concerts are presented on the second Thursday each month by The Seattle Art Museum and curated by  John Gilbreath for Earshot Jazz.  The series moves outside to the Olympic Sculpture Park for July  and August with the next concert featuring D'Vonne Lewis Special Edition on July 9.
