All you need is a quick look out the window to see a gorgeous day in store for Friday, with none of those morning clouds we've been seeing all week.
The day is the last “almost perfectly sunny and warm” day we’ll see this weekend, says Cliff Mass, professor of atmospheric science at the University of Washington.
“Today’s going to be a really delightful,” he said. “But you’re going to see some clouds coming in at high levels later in the afternoon.”
As for the rest of the weekend, Mass says we'll have a cloudy but decent Saturday.
“I expect tomorrow to be roughly 5 to 8 degrees cooler than today,” said Mass. “Definitely a big step down, and the clouds will thicken, especially in the afternoon.”
The rain will hit the coast sometime Saturday afternoon, then sweep inland by midnight, says Mass. And come Mother’s Day morning, the inlands will see rain, and the mountains will stay wet all day.
“So probably on Sunday is not the day to go hiking,” he said. "Unfortunately, it may not be so perfect for that Mother's Day outing, either."
But if you're determined to garden or go for a walk on Sunday, wait until after Mother's Day brunch, says Mass.
"You might be lucky if you wait until the afternoon," he said. "In the lowlands, there could be a few breaks."
Next week will bring a series of weather systems, and things will return to a more normal spring pattern.
“So some days it will be raining, and some days it will be cloudy,” said Mass.
