Oregon Gov. Kate Brown has officially launched her campaign to win another two years in office. The Democrat filed election papers in Salem Tuesday.
Brown became governor in February 2015 when then-governor John Kitzhaber stepped down amid an ethics investigation. She said she's hoping to have the chance to convince voters to return her to office.
"I'm certainly honored to have the opportunity to help make sure that every Oregonian has an opportunity to thrive and that we continue to grow the economy in every single corner of the state,” the governor said.
Brown has more than $1 million in her campaign account. She’ll face five challengers in the Democratic primary. Her challengers have raised less than $10,000 combined. There are five Republicans seeking their party's nomination, and one Independent Party candidate. The winner of this November's election will serve the final two years of Kitzhaber's term.
Tuesday is the final day to file papers to appear on the May primary ballot in Oregon.
