Jazz Caliente salutes 2013 JJA winners

The Jazz Journalists annual awards for musicians were announced yesterday, May 1.

Jazz Caliente celebrates Latin Jazz winners Luciana Souza (Best Female Vocalists), Bobby Sanabria (Best Percussionist), and Edmar Casteneda (Player of Instruments Rare in Jazz of the Year).

Brazilian-born singer Luciana Souza has had six Grammy nominations, is a respected music teacher, and has a voice from heaven.

Bobby Sanabria, my go-to guy for all Latin Jazz history, is a multi-talented drummer, percussionist, composer, producer, and writer based in New York.

Edmar Casteneda is a young harpist from Columbia who has enthralled audiences with his blend of jazz and South American music.

All the Jazz Journalist Award winners can be found at the JJA Jazz Awards website.

Listen for these winning Latin Jazz artists and more on Jazz Caliente, Thursdays at noon on KPLU's Mid Day Jazz!
