Gregor Huebner and El Violin Latino

Violinist Gregor Huebner has developed a signature sound inspired by traditional Latin American music.  This week on Saturday Jazz Caliente, we'll hear a selection from his recording El Violin Latino.

Gregor Huebner was born in Stuttgart.  He studied violin and piano from an early age, and moved to New York in 1994.  He got his MA in jazz piano/composition and a President's Award from the Manhattan School of Music.

Gregor has been a member of Philharmonia Virtuosi, which is the chamber orchestra of the Metropolitan Museum.  He's also performed with the highly entertaining tango/classical/jazz/comedy/world music group https://youtu.be/kQE18ik_xmo" target="_blank">Tango Five.

He's currently part of the Sirius String Quartet, who specialize in playing the works of living composers, original compositions, and https://youtu.be/WOA8QVwt00w" target="_blank">re-imagined popular songs.

Gregor's El Violin Latino and El Violin Latino Volume 2 bring fresh energy to the music of Argentina, Brazil and Cuba.  Volume 3 is in its final production stages as of this writing, and it includes a duet with immensely talented Columbian harpist Edmar Castañeda.

Listen for Gregor Huebner's version of "El Huerfanito" on Saturday Jazz Caliente this week.  Until then, enjoy this live performance from 2016:
