Pianist, bandleader, composer and producer Herbie Hancock has had a career that's lasted five decades and garnered 14 Grammy® Awards.
A child prodigy who performed with the Chicago Symphony when he was 11, he was discovered by trumpeter Donald Byrd in 1960.
Herbie's groundbreaking work with Miles Davis and his own groups from the 1960s through the 1990s redefined the role of the rhythm section, and brought new electronic sounds to jazz.

In July of 2011 Hancock was designated an honorary UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador.
He's also been the Los Angeles Philharmonic's Creative Chair For Jazz, and he currently serves as Institute Chairman of the Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz, the foremost international organization devoted to the development of jazz performance and education worldwide. Hancock is also a founder of The International Committee of Artists for Peace.
Herbie Hancock will anchor this year's International Jazz Day activities with a gala event to be held in Istanbul, Turkey on April 30th.
