A Japan Airlines flight to Tokyo's Narita Airport has returned safely to Boston's Logan Airport because of a possible fuel pump issue on the Boeing 787 aircraft.
It's the latest woe for the new Dreamliner aircraft after a lithium ion battery problem grounded the fleet in January and a fire on an Ethiopian Airlines plane last week.
Japan Airlines spokeswoman Carol Anderson says Flight 007 returned Thursday as a precautionary measure to check out a maintenance message indicator showing the possible fuel pump problem.
Federal Aviation Administration spokeswoman Arlene Salac says the pilot didn't declare an emergency and the aircraft burned off fuel before landing.
The plane left for Tokyo about 1 p.m. Thursday for a 14-hour flight. It returned about 6 p.m.
Boeing Co. is based in Chicago. The 787 is assembled in Washington and South Carolina.
