RICHLAND, Wash. – One of the oldest clothing retailers in the Northwest is getting some new attention from fashion houses that cater to young consumers. Pendleton Woolen Mills' new collection is hitting top fashion websites and is selling out at Northwest stores.
The new line is called the Portland Collection. Do a quick search for it and it won't take you long to find the new threads on Anthropologie, Saks, fashion blogs and boutique websites.
They're made out of iconic Native American and historic patterns that the Pendleton Woolen Mills have been producing for nearly 150 years from its original home in Northeast Oregon.
Mort Bishop is part of the fifth generation of his family to run the company. Bishop says Pendleton Woolen Mills' classic style is able to transcend generations. But...
"What the design team has been able to do is to add their flavor of contemporary aesthetic to really make it viable for this new generation," Bishop says.
Bishop says Pendleton Woolen Mills plans to double the collection next year, and sell it internationally.
