How to get rid of your Christmas tree

artisticconcretellc.com

Your Christmas tree can take on new life as wood chips or compost.  In Seattle and Tacoma, you can recycle your tree for free.

In Seattle, put it out with your yard waste from December 26, 2010 to Jan. 9, 2011.  You can also recycle your tree at Seattle Public Utilities' North and South Recycling and Disposal stations by January 9.  There's a limit of 3 trees per vehicle.

In Tacoma, take it to the City of Tacoma Landfill, 3510 S. Mullen St. through Jan. 24.  If you do plan to recycle your tree, there are some rules to follow.  Decorations must be removed from trees and,  for curbside pickup, large trees must be cut into 6 foot sections.

If you live outside the city limits,  some private recycling companies will take Christmas trees for a nominal fee.
