The president of Green River College is stepping down after six years on the job, effective immediately. No reason has been given for Eileen Ely's resignation, although union faculty have been calling for her to step down for years. They went on strike in May over proposed program cuts.
Business Administration Vice President Shirley Bean and Human Resources and Legal Affairs Vice President Marshall Sampson will share the duties of acting president until an interim president is appointed. A national search will be conducted for a permanent hire.
The college's vice president, Derek Brandes, said earlier this month he was leaving to become president of Walla Walla Community College.
Green River College is based in Auburn, and has locations in Kent and Enumclaw.
