Getting creative with a very small space

A tiny space with big ideas. This is the motto of the Telephone Room in Tacoma. It claims to be one of the smallest places in the world where artists display their work.

The room is slightly larger than a bathroom on an airplane. It’s where people would talk on the phone back in the days when telephones out in the open were considered vulgar. In fact the old black rotary phone still hangs on the wall and occasionally interrupts the quiet of the gallery space.

Since opening in a private home near 6th and Union three years ago, the Telephone Room has had more than a dozen exhibitions. Now the Telephone Room and its curators want to push the gallery out of its closet and move it more in the direction of a concept.
