'David Versus Goliath Race' For McMorris Rodgers' Congressional Seat

The race has begun for candidates vying to oust Cathy McMorris Rodgers from Congress. A Spokane businessman on Tuesday announced his candidacy for the seat that represents eastern Washington.

More than 30 years ago, Dave Wilson founded the computer training school Interface College. This year, he’s running as an independent for U.S. Congress.

Wilson says his priorities are campaign finance laws, reducing the deficit, and ending gridlock in Congress.

“The first thing that I will do is to form a centrist caucus. Voting as a block, this centrist caucus will be able to help pass legislation in a responsible and civil fashion,” he said.

Wilson calls his candidacy a “David versus Goliath race.” He plans to stay small by denying contributions from special interests groups, and capping individual donations at $500.

The CEO of the Colville Tribal Federation Corporation announced his run for the 5th Congressional District earlier this month. Democratic candidate Joe Pakootas prides himself on leading an economic turnaround for the tribes, and for efforts to clean up the Columbia River.

Cathy McMorris Rodgers has been in office since 2005 and is the fourth ranking Republican in Congress. The primary election for Washington state is in August.
