Corporate Kicker For K-12 Well On Track To November Ballot

SALEM, Ore. – An initiative to redirect corporate tax rebates to public schools is on track to qualify for the November ballot. This rebate is called the kicker because it goes into effect when tax revenues exceed projections by more than 2 percent.

The advocacy group Our Oregon is sponsoring the initiative. It’s funded by the state’s three largest public employee unions. So far there's been no major opposition towards the initiative.

Scott Moore is a spokesperson with Our Oregon. He says that could change.

“I think it still remains to be seen whether we’re going to see an organized opposition campaign from large corporations or corporate lobbyists who are opposed to it. "

Election officials have until August 5th to review the petition signatures and approve the initiative for the November ballot. The measure will not affect the personal tax kicker for individuals.
