$10,000 in equipment stolen from Habitat for Humanity in Tacoma

Tacoma/Pierce County Habitat for Humanity reports thieves broke into a work site Tuesday night in Tacoma, stealing more than $10,000 worth of equipment and building materials. The thieves had to cut through chains securing the project, a development called Founders Circle. Six homes are being built for low income families on the site at 1102 South Shirley Street.Thieves made off with tools, aluminum scaffolding planks, copper wire, plumbing and other items. Gomer Roseman, Director of Site Development and Construction for Tacoma Habitat, says the criminals knew what they were looking for:

“They stole metals that can be sold to recyclers. Thieves also kicked in the back door of one home. Thankfully there was no equipment, appliances or tools in the structure.”

Tacoma/Pierce County Habitat for Humanity officials are contacting area recyclers, asking them to look for the stolen materials and help identify the thieves. They're also hiring a security guard to monitor the job site. Tacoma police are investigating.

If you have information about this crime, you can call Pierce County Crime Stoppers at 253-591-5959.
