Panel of African-American community leaders discuss the importance of King's ideas today, life on the Eastside, and progress of equality and equity in America.

January 11:
Seattle MLK Unity Day with Ilyasah Shabazz - Seattle First Baptist Church
7 p.m.
Mayor Jenny Durkan, Council President Bruce Harrell and members of Seattle City Council and other community leaders welcome motivational speaker Ilyasah Shabazz, the daughter of Malcolm X and Betty Shabazz.

January 12:
Seattle Colleges Community Celebration of Martin Luther King, Jr. - Mount Zion Baptist Church, Seattle
12-1:30 p.m.
Theme is "Nonviolence in a Violent World." Keynote speaker is Ijeoma Oluo.

January 13:
Youth-organized March to Honor Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. - Memorial Park, Seattle
11 a.m.
Seattle Parks and Recreation hosts youth-oriented march to honor Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Theme is "End poverty! Build equity!" March to Rainier Community Center. Workshops, games, music, food.
